Room 66 (The Parable of the Haunted Room and the Guests)

There is only one cheap motel among a sea of highly-priced hotels at downtown of NoChoiceLand. This is the story of one of its notorious rooms, Room 66.

On a rainy Friday night, a young lady booked Room 66 for the weekend. That night, she encountered strange and disturbing phenomenas. She couldn't sleep all night. She's convinced that the hotel room is haunted by ghosts. She changed her room first thing next morning to another down the corridor.

On that Saturday evening, a young man booked Room 66 for one night. Soon he was sound asleep and had the best and longest sleep of his life. He woke up happy when it was noon, almost time to check out. As he was leaving, he bumped into the young lady along the corridor.

Curious about the smile in his face, the lady asked the man if he saw the same ghosts that attacked her. "What ghost?" The man said there's no such thing there. At first, the man thought the lady was suffering from some kind of delusion. After a prolonged heated debate, he began to reason why she was attacked and he wasn't. The long list ranged from gender, to the rainy night, and to the states of her emotion.

An old man walked past the both of them, he was about to be checked into Room 66 when he overheard their conversation. The young lady related to the old man what she witnessed and the ordeal she went through in Room 66. The young man brushed her aside and commented on what a great experience he had at Room 66.

The old man thought for a while and turned to the lady "I believe you. I know why you were attacked." And then he turned to the young man "I believe you. I know why you weren't attacked."

The old man turned back to the lady "The reason why you were attacked is because they attacked you". And then he turned back to the young man "The reason why you weren't attacked is because they didn't attack you".

The old man then counted how much money left he had in his pocket, looked at his watch, made a couple of phone calls, weighed up his options and made his decision.

The old man was wise enough not to get into the debate on the whys and the hows. He didn't see the point. He validated both the differing views and made his decision based on his priority, affordability and options.

How we evaluate things, people and circumstances are often in the seeing (Btw can you tell the number 66 look like a pair of eyes?). What the young lady and the young man saw were both valid. Their judgments were based on what they saw and experienced. One room. Two different experiences. Both are correct. Just because the man didn't see any ghost doesn't mean they weren't there. Who knows?

The choices we make are different for different individuals. What is ok for me may not be ok for another. What is right for another may not be right for me. At the end of the day, knowing what we know, we must all face and answer the inevitable question when we make our decision "Is that ok for me? Can I sleep with that?"     :)

Do I have to say that the above motel and characters are fictional and the product of my imagination? But the ghosts that we all face everyday are most definitely real!  ;)
