Can't remember where I read it, but someone said if Jesus would to come into our world today like He did 2000 years ago, and preach the same radical brand of gospel, the Church wouldn't be able to bear Him and would crucify Him like how the Jews did.
I thought that was probably true! Just that although Christ is not physically here with us, His prophets are probably the ones being "crucified". If we do it to His servants, we're doing it to Him.
Saul of Tarsus was apprehended by the Light Himself and was accused of persecuting Christ. Saul thought he was doing his God and religion a favour by persecuting the "false" apostles. But when did he ever persecute Christ, right? Oh yeah??!!! Who are the Sauls of today?
Would we recognize Christ if He shows up? He seems to always show up at the most unexpected time in the most unsuspecting circumstances. Thief in the night He is, according to Scripture! Would we recognize the Intruder?
Would we kill Him?
Would you? Would I?
