The Dead Ones

After reading through what was posted earlier, I have to pen my comments on what I meant when I said "I find more encouragement from those who are long gone and dead, than the living ones..."

What advantage do the dead ones hold over the living ones? You're probably thinking I got it backwards! Maybe.

I also found out this morning that, it's actually scriptural. I happened to read Ecclesiastes...

Though tempted, I won't write further. You've to stop. And THINK.

Do you know what is it? Feel free to write in your comments.

I know that verse.

Ecclesiastes 7:2
" It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart."

What I think is that there is more encouragement from those who are long gone and dead, than living ones because when Death comes, we believe by Faith that there is an afterlife - being reunited with our Maker. Those who are dead remind us that life on Earth is temporal and that it is merely a grain of sand in the hourglass of eternity. The dead offer great encouragement because we know we have the Blessed Hope.

It would be very depressing if life ends here on Earth for all of us. One way or another, humans do not want to just die on Earth and cease to exist completely and this is probably because "God has set eternity in the hearts of men." (Ecc 3:11)The problem is that we live with a "mortal" mentality where we don't realise that our actions have eternal consequences and we forget that WE ARE MADE TO BE IMMORTALS, and no, I don't mean that in a God-like way lest anyone accuses me of self-worship.

Apart from that, due to the usually shocking nature of death, we tend to stop and think of how short and trivial the present life is and we are reminded to seize the moments in life. Life is not just one huge cycle of routine although it can be if you make it to be so.

But, on the flip side, death can be haunting and terrorizing for some if they are to spend their eternity in some place other than Heaven ...

Oh yea, Hwai Tah, have you been to my blog recently, specifically on the 7th of June? Hahah.

Very good, Bawa! Appreciate your thoughts.

Didn't see you at Camporama. Guess we took turns to go at different halves of the camp, huh? I got back today.

Your blog? It's not been updated since April. Unless you've another one which is different from the link in my blog. But your Freezer-land is history?

Yup, I'm going for camp in about 2 hours time. Haha, like shifts.

Oh, freezer-land is gone. I changed the URL. The link in Su Ling's blog is valid and yes it's not been updated since April. I was just trying to guess an unknown commenter. But I think I have a new suspect already.

I'm waiting to read what you have in mind on that matter. =)
