My Vision

Stumbled upon a few mp3 of my all-time favourite hymn. This ancient Irish hymn speaks of so many things: volumes of theology, spiritual values and personal experiences. I learnt this song when I was a university student. After over a decade, BTMV is still my No.1 hymn, still my prayer as I journey through this chaotic life.

Be Thou My Vision
.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord
Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art

High King of Heaven, my victory won
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all

Birthdays

Had two birthday celebrations over the weekend, one for my dad and the other for Su Ling, Brian Chow and David Suppramaniam.

Both Su Ling and my dad's birthday fall on May 24. Here are two pics taken by different camera phones:

Happening Week

My blog has been slightly dormant, but that's because my life is totally the opposite.

Last weekend was our Young Adults Retreat 2008 at Eagle Ranch. What can I say but it was another successful outing...totally awesome and enjoyable. Will write more and post my photos soon enough. Too much to write and too many photos!

Yesterday, I did the confined water training at SPCC (Selangor Polo Country Club) with Sherene, Jacky and Janielle. The trainer was none other than Ps John himself. It was a full day of practical diving skills...but everything was over so fast. Ps John said we managed to fulfill all the skills and the extra options which most instructors and students would normally skip. All of us also swam continuously for 200 meters and then tread water for 10 minutes. We were satisfied with our performances and had a nice dinner at Asia Cafe in Subang to fill our hungry stomachs. Can't wait for open sea!

This morning I woke up to the news of the Red Devils lifting the Champions League cup again! Glory United!! You're the best of the best!!

The week passes by so fast that it's gonna be Friday tomorrow...which means Cell day! Can't wait to fellowship with the wonderful, colourful people in the cell. And then it's weekend....some things are coming up...

Man's Last Domain for Dominion

Talk about dominion. We think of many things, battles to be won, conquest of wars etc.

But I've also been thinking of what I shared in cell last Friday. If I understood correctly, James 3:1-12 said that the tongue is the last thing a man (definitely applies to woman too!) can bring under control. If he does, he's perfect!

According to the wise James again, the 'lidah' can be the body's 'leader', leading it to corruption, violence, destruction.

Notice the headlines in the paper last week concerning our parliament: "House on Fire". Yes, James said our tongue is like a spark, able to torch the whole forest down. We saw how our leaders skilfully used their tongues, didn't we?

Notice what we say
Listen to how we say things
Observe what's spoken in silence
Watch out for the consequences

Teachers...oh teachers....James said we shouldn't be too quick or eager to teach. Don't assume you're a teacher just because you can teach.

Know what Jesus called the experts/teachers of his days? Whitewashed tombs. Hypocrites that are beautiful on the outside but dead on the inside. Know what else He said to them? "You brood of vipers (snakes), how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" Matt 12:34

What's in our hearts? What kind of heart do I have?

Guard that fiery thing in your mouth.
